Neel Murgai is a sitarist, overtone singer, percussionist, composer, teacher, and Co-Artistic Director of the Brooklyn Raga Massive, a raga inspired musician's collective. Neel's music ranges from Indian classical to original compositions and contemporary cross-cultural collaborations with influences spanning the globe. Neel has worked with a diverse array of artists and ensembles, including Bill T. Jones, Adam Rudolph, Andre DeShields, Wyclef Jean, Cyndi Lauper, Karsh Kale, Samir Chatterjee, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Mary Zimmerman, Daniel Bernard Romain, Ellen Stewart, Laraaji, Yuerba Buena, Baba Israel, Raz Mesinai, Mission on Mars, Akim Funk Buddha, Loren Conners, Haunted House and Cosmo Vinyl. He has performed at venues ranging from the Lincoln Center and Kennedy Center to the David Letterman Show to jazz clubs such as the Blue Note and at festivals around the U.S including Art Wallah, Arts Plosure, Masala! Mehndi! Masti! and many others.
Neel’s latest musical venture, this musical powerhouse ventures into uncharted territories at the intersection of raga, rock, and jazz. With Neel’s mesmerizing sitar and effects, alongside the innovative trumpet and effects of Indofunk Satish, the rhythmic brilliance of Tripp Dudley on drumset, and the deep grooves of Damon Banks on bass. Quadrature has performed at Globalfest, Lincoln Center, Levitt Pavillion, Brooklyn Conservatory of Music and more.
Emerging from the legendary BRM jam session, Quadrature began their journey with fully improvised, psychedelic sets rooted in ragas, captivating audiences on the streets of Brooklyn. Building upon their foundation, they now showcase original compositions alongside reinterpretations of classics from the likes of Pandit Ravi Shankar, Funkadelic and the Beatles, and have performed at Globalfest, Lincoln Center, Levitt Pavilion, Brooklyn Conservatory of Music and more. Inspired by their name, which derives from mathematics and astronomy, Quadrature delves into experimental realms of black hole blues and intricate melodies to create a distinctive sound for this time and space

Waves of Gravity is a solo multimedia performance from sitarist, overtone singer, percussionist and composer, Neel Murgai, directed by Michole Biancosino with video and art design by Seema Pandya. Through story telling, raga, polyphonic overtone singing, percussion, live looping, and video projections, Neel weaves a personal story of healing in sound and music.
